BYU hosts 25th Symposium on Books for Young Readers July 12-13

Brigham Young University will host the 25th Symposium on Books for Young Readers, a two-day conference for librarians, teachers, parents and anyone who enjoys children’s literature, Thursday and Friday, July 12-13, at the Provo City Library.

Registration fees range from $221 with college credit, $189 for regular registration, $149 for Thursday-only, and $109 for Friday-only. Discounted prices for pull-time undergraduate students are $25 and $12. The symposium will feature six nationally known authors and illustrators of children’s literature, including:

• Nic Bishop, photographer of the much-lauded Nic Bishop series and “Red-Eyed Tree Frog”

• Ally Condie, author of the New York Times no. 1 best-selling novel “Matched” and its just released sequel “Crossed”

• Jack Gantos, author of “Hole in My Life,” and the 2012 Newbery award-winning “Dead End in Norvelt”

• Amy Krouse Rosenthal, author of “Little Pea,” “The Wonder Book” and “Cookies: Bite-Size Life Lessons”

• Jeanette Ingold, author of “Paper Daughter,” “Hitch” and “The Big Run”

• Tom Lichtenheld, author of “Everything I Know About Pirates” and illustrator of New York Times no. 1 best-selling book “Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site.”

The presenters will share their perspectives on children’s literature and be available for question-and-answer sessions. In addition, both days’ featured authors will autograph books at scheduled sessions.

The event is sponsored by BYU’s Department of Teacher Education, the Harold B. Lee Library, the Division of Continuing Education, the BYU Bookstore and the Provo City Library.
