[T]he crisis around children is really a crisis about ourselves. We slide from extolling childhood innocence to calling for the devils to be incarcerated in sin bins because that’s how we feel about ourselves. We are anxious about our capacity to keep our children “good” because we doubt our own ability to create and sustain a “good” society. (Rosalind Coward)
