Volunteer in Guatemala May 12-20

We invite you to join us on an exciting trip to Guatemala to volunteer at local schools and libraries in the Mayan Highlands of Santiago, Lake Atitlan, “The most beautiful lake in the world.”
Karen, a retired schoolteacher, has been volunteering and teaching in Guatemala since
2005. Annie has been volunteering in Central America with Habitat for Humanity and Interfaith
Services for Latin America.
Our trip is organized by Bridge Builders, an experienced travel planner with many volunteer organizations. Cost: $975 (excluding airfare) Deposit: $150 to hold your spot. ( $415 due Feb.
15, and the final $410 due April 2.) Make out checks to Bridge Builders and send to Karen at

TRIP ITINERARY: GUATEMALA MAY 12 – 20, 2012
SATURDAY: Travel day to Guatemala; Travel day to Lake Atitlan (may be difficult to get to Santiago that day due to the arrival time of the flights and in fact you may have to spend the night in Antigua. So let’s assume first night in Antigua; dinner
SUNDAY: (possible travel day will be Saturday) Travel day to Lake Atitlan; stop in Ximche on the way
and see some Mayan ruins and perhaps Shamans at work; on to Panajachel for lunch at Sunset Café; Then boats to Santiago; settle in at the hotel; orientation to work projects. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
MONDAY: Work day at the library; Time with families and possible home visits Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
TUESDAY: Work day at the library; Time with families and possible home visits Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
WEDNESDAY: Work day at the library; Time with families and possible home visits Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
THURSDAY: Visit to San Juan by boat; coffee tour at Finca la Voz cooperative coffee farm and then lunch at
the farm; visit with women’s weaving cooperatives and local painters; return to Santiago. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner
FRIDAY: Depart early for Panajachel by boat and to the Atitlan after lunch at the reserve The group will travel to Antigua with a stop in Chimaltenango to visit a learning center Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner in Antigua on own)
SATURDAY: Day in Antigua. Option to work at Jackson House Hospital for Children Final dinner (breakfast and dinner)
SUNDAY: DEPART FOR HOME (breakfast)
